Dead Island 2 sales hit 1 million

Hacking zombies into meaty chunks is proving to be extremely popular. After the global launch on Friday 21st April, it was officially announced on Monday 24th that Dead Island 2 sales have sold very well. Over 1 million copies in the first 72 hours to be precise! In just three days of sale, the new game by Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios has won over many fans around the world. To celebrate, they have shared some statistics.

Dead Island 2 in numbers

  • More than 1 million copies of Dead Island 2 sold in the first weekend
  • 11 million hours played
  • 28 million total player deaths
  • 45 million zombies sliced in half
  • 756 million zombie limbs hacked off
  • More than 1.1 billion zombies slayed

That’s a pretty impressive stack of numbers. Although I’m never really sure how numbers like these are calculated. Regardless, it’s still a stellar milestone to hit in such a short time. Not bad for a game that was announced way back in 2014 during E3. It has been a long time coming. I’ve linked the original trailer below as I personally think it is one of the best trailers I’ve seen.

It is a fun and frenetic video crammed full of visual and audio references. There are some killer background details too. Not that i’m discounting later, more recent trailers, but this one will forever be one of my favourites.

Obviously, I’m pretty sure those Dead Island 2 sales numbers are going to continue to rise in the near future. It will be interesting to see just how successful the game will be. Dead Island 2 is available on Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, as well as the Epic Games Store for PC.
