Well known for his videos on retro technology, the Nostalgia Nerd is a UK-based creator. Additionally, he’s been on television and attended events. And in 2018, he released a book entitled “The Nostalgia Nerd’s Retro Tech” Which is pretty cool, to be honest.
As any good bargain hunter will write to tell you, the majority of my finds are purely based on luck. And I feel I was very lucky when I found this copy at my local The Works for cheap. I picked a copy up for just £6, as opposed to the £15 initial asking price.
Retro technology galore!
It’s quite a solid volume, consisting of 224 pages and a chunky well-designed hardcover. As it goes from 1972 all the way to 2001, it is an absolute treasure trove of information about retro consoles. The majority of the book concentrates on home consoles and micro-computers. This can be anything from the Magnavox Odyssey, all the way to the original Xbox. It does also have a small section on handheld consoles and PC gaming near the back. Each piece of technology has 4 pages dedicated to it. This includes several paragraphs of text and a short factsheet summary. In addition, there are also three games per console/micro-compter featured. An abundance of full-colour images can be seen through too.
As a person whose first memories of gaming consisted of the original PlayStation, this book was this thing is a must-read for me. I’m a bit of a sucker for retro technology is pretty alright in my eyes. It does go into detail on things before and after the PlayStation, but this was a highlight for me. You might just say this book is my new retro-gaming bible. As I grow my collection, it’s great to have an easy-to-access guide to a lot of things I might come across.
In conclusion, Nostalgia Nerd’s Retro Tech is definitely worth picking up if you enjoy dusty old consoles. It would also be perfect for someone who doesn’t have first-hand knowledge of these devices. If you want to buy this product then please consider using my Amazon Affiliate link!
