In a video for the Logitech G325 Lightspeed gaming headset, I said that it was the BEST headset I’d ever had. I got a little bit of blowback for saying that.
Look. I’m sorry. I still stand by my statement. The Logitech G325 Lightspeed is the best headset I’ve ever had. It’s also the most expensive headset I’ve ever had. Catch the trend there? A more premium experience for a more premium price. And the fact I was sent it for free by Logitech G? A perk of the job (thanks Logitech G!). That didn’t colour my thoughts on the device though.
Fine. So it’s better than all the other headsets I’ve had. Big deal. Is it perfect? Hmm. No. More on that later.
Lightweight and long-lasting
Initial impressions out of the box were good. It sports breathable knit fabric and dual-layer foam ear cushions. At just 212g, it’s pretty comfortable during those long gaming sessions.
The battery life supports this, too, with an apparent capacity for 24+ hours of use between charges. I haven’t tested that scientifically, but I do seem to be charging it much less than my previous headsets. That’s a definite win in my book. It doesn’t have the longest battery life in existence, but it’s a fair amount.
Actual audio itself is pretty damn good too. I’ve mainly been testing it by playing a certain scary underwater sequel on my handheld gaming PC. It was a really immersive experience exploring that wet and wavy world. Hearing big aquatic beasties roar at me through those things has been great. A bonus point to you if you guess which game I’ve been playing!
The expected Bluetooth-enabled connection is there. It’s simple and easy to connect that way. The headset also comes with its own little dongle that plugs into any USB slot in your gaming machine of choice. Either way works, although I used Bluetooth to connect to my handheld pc.
A tad basic
The colour options do seem a little basic. Black, White, and Lilac? For a new flagship product, I was hoping for a bit more choice. I’m kinda sick of these modern clean designs. I like my tech to be bright and eye-catching!
I wasn’t too bothered about the “beamforming MEMS microphone with AI noise reduction” either, as I don’t use my headset to record my voice. Good for those who do, I suppose, or for those who need a microphone to play games. Also, seeing something with ‘AI’ infused into it feels kinda icky. Everyone seems to be jumping on the AI trend these days as if it’s a selling point. There is also a serious lack of a dedicated boom mic. This impacts the visual appeal as well as the audio that is picked up.
Budget friendly premium experience
Something I can get on board with is the on-headset controls. These include power, volume, Bluetooth toggle, and a mute switch. The power button in particular makes the Logitech G325 Lightspeed feel like a premium experience.
Despite it being the most expensive headset I’ve ever had, it’s still technically classed as a budget option. At a price under £100, it is a good all-round headset for the casual gamer. The lack of a quality mic, some basic colours, and a plastic-feeling body brings the overall quality and value for money down.
