According to the packing of the SteelSeries QcK Medium Mousepad, this brand is the #1 choice in eSports. Which is quite the claim. At first glance, it looks like a standard fabric gaming mousepad. So what makes this mousepad so special? And what justifies me spending £10.99 at my local Game UK store?
Well, the microwoven cloth surface is apparently good for optical and laser sensors. And the non-slip base does help keep it from slipping around on my desk. It does adhere quite nicely to my table and my mouse flows smoothly over the fabric surface. It comes in a no thrills, slimline package. Just a bit of cardboard, along with ones of those bits of plastic that allows it to be hung up in a store. I like when there’s no excess packaging. Less things to throw away and more things to can be recyced.
The mousepad in all it’s visual glory isn’t all that great. On the fabric side there is a little logo down on the bottom left. Flipping it over onto the rubber side reveals a nice embossed pattern of the logo. Overall, it’s just a bit bland. There’s plenty of themed designs available, with the standout probably being the Cyberpunk 2077 one. Those one’s are slightly more expensive though. Unfortunately, dust and other bits of grime does tend to show up easily on this mouse pad, due to its matt black colour. It is machine-washable thankfully, so getting dirt on it isn’t the end of the world.
Overall, the SteelSeries QcK Medium Mousepad seems pretty decent, especially for the price. If someone doesn’t want to spend too much on a mousepad, it fits into a modest budget. I don’t know much about eSports, but it does the job for regular old mouse usage.
