Steam is a treasure trove of games. Thanks to frequent sales, bundles and other wonderful reasons, getting a game for a discounted price is a frequent thing. Sometimes, you can get games completely for free. As in 100% discounted free games. I’m not talking about a long-winded loophole, or some dodgy back-alley dealings or those micro-transaction laden free games. I’m talking about full-fat retail-priced games that are 100% discounted.
A process so simple
Luckily it’s a simple process.
- Head over to the Steam search bar, and initiate a search without inputting anything into the text field.
- Once you see the huge list of games available, go to “filters” and slide the “Narrow by Price” slider all the way to the left until it says “Free”.
- Immediately below that slider, tick “Discounts & Events”. Then scroll down to the bottom of the “filters” menu and hit “show results”.
- After that, a list of games will appear that are 100% off. Click through to each of them and add them to your account. Simple!
Here’s the skinny. On occasion, whoever is selling a game on Steam may offer it up for 100% discounted for a limited time. This could be to celebrate a milestone in the history of their company, or maybe the release of a new game. Whatever the reason, you get a free game out of the deal.
Good or bad? Free!
Obviously, the quality of the games do differ. Some are good. Some are…less good. And they aren’t always available. These are a limited-time offer type of thing. That’s why it’s to practise to check back with the above process occasionally. At the time of writing, there were a good selection of games on offer. These included Tell Me Why, Happy Humble’s Burger Farm, and Red Lantern.
And that’s everything! 100% discounted free games for you. A simple, easy, and legitimate way of expanding your gaming backlog.
If you have a Steam Deck, I’ve also got a list of some of the best free games for that lovely price of hardware. And none of that micro-transaction nonsense either!
