As a person who adores physical media, I very much like the Evercade. After my initial impressions, I have just been more and more impressed by what the people at Blaze Entertainment are doing. They have been releasing retro-themed hit after hit. And one of those recent (at the time of writing) hits is the Legacy of Kain Evercade duology released on 30th September 2024.
Blood sucking classics – Re-animated!
This collection follows on from the likes of the phenomenal Tomb Raider release. The single cartridge features both the original Blood Omen (1996) and Soul Reaver (1999) games. Although I haven’t ever played Blood Omen, I do remember attempting to play Soul Reaver on the original PlayStation. I didn’t get very far through it, but the creepy gothic visual aesthetic cemented itself in my brain. The gameplay and lofty story flew over my young head, it was all just a little intense for me then. Now that I’m older though, I can appreciate the lore and world-building way more.
As with most other titles, the Legacy of Kain Evercade duology comes in the now signature mini-case. Inside, both games are presented on a single cartridge and comes alongside a full colour manual. No sticker pack or other added extras this time around.

What comes next?
With each passing title, the scope of the Evercade family of consoles keeps getting more epic. It wasn’t too long ago that the fantastic Duke Nukem collections were released. With these rudimentary yet robust early 3D games coming to Evercade, I wonder what else is in store. What else will be added to this catalogue alongside 40 Winks, Glover and Tomb Raider? As much as I like the support Blaze Entertainment is giving to indie developers, these long-standing franchise revivals are among my favourite games currently available on the platform.
